Setting up network in Red Hat 7 in less than a minute – QUICK & EASY!!!

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7: Setting up network in less than a minute.

In this video tutorial we will set IP address, netmask, DNS primary and secondary server and search domains in less than a one minute in RHEL v7.

1) to start Network Manager text user interface run nmtui command.

nmtui

2) NetworkManager-tui package must be installed to make nmtui command available (it is part of minimal RHEL v7 installation). To install NetworkManager-tui command run “yum install NetworkManager-tui” command.

yum install NetworkManager-tui

3) Please choose Edit a connection and then press <Add> button.

Select Ethernet type of connection and press <Create> button.

Configure NetworkManager connection.

NOTE: Name of device can be obtained with “ip a” command or “nmcli dev show” command.

4) If there is more than one NetworkManager connection configured, please activate your new connection.

To activate your connection run:
nmtui
Choose Activate a connection

Select your connection and press Activate button

This will deactivate your first (old) connection.

To check your ipaddress, please use “ip a” command:

ip a

To verify your default gateway, please use “ip r” command:

ip r

To verify DNS servers configuration, please use “dig” command:

dig redhat.com

NOTE: you need to install bind-utils package for dig command.

You can also try to ping some remote server:

ping redhat.com
